National Child Passenger Safety Week September 14-20, 2014

On Behalf of | Sep 20, 2014 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week and a reminder to keep your child riding safe. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for children 1-13 years old. In the United States, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death among children. In 2012, over 1/3 (37%) of children killed in car crashes were not in car seats, booster seats or seat belts. One third of children age 8-14 killed in car crashes were riding in the front seat.

The National Child Passenger Safety Week is a reminder that all children under age 13 should ride in the back seat. Further, children under the age of 2 should be riding in a rear facing child safety seat. Children under the age of 5 should remain in an age and size appropriate child safety seat, riding in the back seat. Children from ages 5-8 should use a booster seat and be fully restrained.

In honor of National Child Passenger Safety Week, and as a part of the campaign, on September 20, 2014, you can have your child safety seats inspected for free. There are over 60 locations in the Sacramento area.
